PROFESSIONAL ATHLETIC THERAPY IN FORT ST JOHN
Active Rehabilitation is an important part of the overall rehabilitation process. Also referred to as Therapeutic Exercise, Active Rehabilitation is imperative in making a complete recovery from any acute or chronic injury. Active Rehabilitation is functionally based, and the exercises within the rehabilitation program are chosen to restore fitness levels that were lost during the length of the injury. Reestablishing fitness components such as: flexibility, muscular endurance, ROM, cardiovascular endurance, strength, power, and balance will be the objective during this phase of rehabilitation.
This type of rehabilitation is usually administered by a Registered Kinesiologist who has training in such an area. Kinesiologists work in conjunction with other health practitioners to ensure proper communication is traded between professionals in order to maximize care to the patient.
Active Rehabilitation involves a wide variety of modalities used to restore total function to the injured area. Such modalities include: ultrasound, laser therapy, shockwave (pressure) therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and more. Traditional methods using manual therapy make up the foundation of treatment, but the other stimulatory modalities can greatly compliment the healing and recovery process. Active Rehab specialists can be both used as an initial treatment option or a referral option through other health practitioners such as, physiotherapists, chiropractors, physicians etc.
