MASK FIT TESTING

IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING THE RIGHT RESPIRATOR

Respirators are often used in places where there are risks of excessive exposure to airborne contaminants like  dusts, mists, gases, fumes, and can be also be used in  environments where oxygen levels are lacking. While designed as a protective gear, a respirator becomes useless if this will not fit your face. Gases can easily leak inside the respirator and you could end up breathing in hazardous contaminants. That is why mask fit testing is a necessity.

OVERVIEW ON MASK FIT TESTING

A mask fit test is a procedure used to confirm that the respirator you will be using on the job will seal properly around your face. This is usually done on an annual basis. There are different types of respirators. Some of these only cover half of the face while more hazardous environments will require the use of respirators that cover the entire face. The quantitative method is a more reliable procedure since tests are done with the use of a machine where the device being used will compare the presence of gas inside the respirator to the gas found in immediate surroundings.
